Paragraph & Character Styles

In InDesign, Paragraph Styles apply attributes to entire paragraphs whereas Character Style apply attributes to characters/words in a paragraph.

For Paragraph, you can change the font, size, text wrap, opacity, color, and even the placement of the paragraph in a document.

For Character, you can only change the specific word you selected within the paragraph.

If you don’t want specific styles, you can remove the overrides.
