Matt Jeffries & How he Designed the Enterprise

You may not realize it, but this goofy looking ship look beautiful from (most) angles because Matt Jeffries knew that to make an appealing design is to follow the golden ratio.

The only setback in my opinion is the pylons, & even then Jeffries knew that too so during the 70s he redesigned the ship to look more like this:
